Primary Rhinoplasty
The size and shape of the nose, which is suitable for the facial features of each person, are different. Depending on a person’s ethnicity, genetic factors, or blows to the face there may be changes in the structure of the face, nose, and cartilage. These changes are factors that affect the aesthetic ratio of the person’s face. For a nose, that is compatible with the face, the aesthetic ratio is very important. The width and length of the person’s face and the size of the nose should be compatible. The nostrils should not be visible when viewed from the front, only the entrance part should be seen. The tip of the nose should be natural, compatible with the whole nose, and have a symmetrical appearance. To achieve all this aesthetic ratio, an aesthetic nose evaluation should be done personally. Rhinoplasty surgery, also known as nose aesthetics, is needed for noses that do not have aesthetic proportions to reach this ratio. Before rhinoplasty surgery, the interventions to be performed on the nose of the person are planned and carefully applied by the physician. If the person is going to have nose surgery for the first time, this surgery is called primary rhinoplasty.
How is Primary Rhinoplasty Performed?
Primary rhinoplasty is the first rhinoplasty to be applied on the nose. With this surgical intervention, the nasal bone can be filed to give the nasal bone a flat appearance, unequal nostrils can be equalized, nasal congestion due to the nasal bone can be eliminated and the patient can breathe more easily. As a result of all the applications, the nose is given an aesthetically proportional appearance. The aesthetic touches of the doctor are very significant in this surgery. The care given to the recovery process after the surgery is also of great importance for the success of the surgery. Rhinoplasty is a person-specific surgery. Before the surgery, your doctor can present you with the image of your nose after the surgery through special computer programs. In this way, the result is predictable before the surgery. In order to perform the surgery, one must be older than 16 years old and the person’s health condition must be suitable for it. The surgery lasts for 2-3 hours, and individuals may be accommodated in the hospital for one night or discharged depending on the operation process and after.
How is the Recovery Process After Primary Rhinoplasty?
It is very important to attend control appointments as recommended by your doctor after the surgery. One should not be worried about the tampons and plaster placed around the nose after the surgery. These tampons are placed to prevent bleeding after the surgery and are removed after 2-4 days. Following that, plasters are removed after 7 days, and the patient can return to daily routine comfortably. Sutures at the tip of the nose are also removed along with the plaster. These procedures are not painful; hence, there is no need to worry. Although the duration of swelling and edema after the surgery varies from person to person, they usually disappear within 10 days. Implementing what your doctor states in the control appointments will both give you comfort and ensure a healthy recovery of your surgery result. While nearly 80% of the swelling goes down within 6 months, it takes about a year for the swelling and edema to completely disappear.
What to Consider After Surgery
After primary rhinoplasty, it is necessary to sleep upright for 1 or 2 days. 2 pillows can be used to ensure this position. It is essential to choose foods that will not cause discomfort after the surgery. In particular, spicy foods that will cause sneezing, and extremely cold or hot foods that can cause sensitivity in the nose should be avoided. Green tea, which has a blood-thinning effect, is not recommended for the first few days. You can take a shower the day after the surgery; however, the tampons in the nose should not get wet. Hence, it would be a more suitable method to wash your hair as it is washed in hairdressers. Tampons in the nose are placed to absorb and stop the bleeding in the area. During the healing process, congestion may occur in the tampons with both blood and nasal fluid, and breathing may be difficult. In such a case, nasal sprays that your doctor deems appropriate should be used. With the removal of the tampons and the sutures, a nasal massage can be performed if your doctor deems it appropriate. At this point, it is very important to do the massage movements that your doctor will show you. In addition to this, sports such as boxing, football, basketball, which may cause a hit to the nose, should be avoided up to 3 months, and the nose should be protected against strikes.
