Concha hypertrophy, also known as concha enlargement, is an extra swelling of the nasal conchae due to structural reasons or rhinitis. On the basis of their structural origin, conchae function harder to create resistance against inhaled air and grow accordingly, depending on the curvatures of the nasal septum. Nasal congestion is among the major complaints of nasal concha enlargement. In concha hypertrophy, the underlying cause of the disorder must be determined. Allergy treatment should be administered first to individuals who develop the condition due to allergies. In order to relieve the individual, drugs can be given to reduce the nasal concha. In case of hypertrophy due to bone or cartilage structure, the solution is surgical interventions. With these interventions, the curvatures of the bone and cartilage tissue are removed. In cases of already enlarged conchae and no complete response to the treatments, the methods of reducing the conchae are used. Various methods are used for these reduction procedures. It is not a correct procedure to completely remove the conchae, so interventions should aim at reducing the volume of the conchae. An endoscopic procedure is performed with coblation and radiofrequency. In both methods, the air sacs inside the concha are targeted without damaging the functional outer part of the conchae, which is painless. Thus, the volume of the conchae is reduced, allowing the individual to breathe comfortably. Unless the main reasons underlying the formation of concha hypertrophy are treated, concha reduction is not a permanent solution.
