Nasal septum deviation, also known as a deviated septum, is a deformity of the bone and cartilage tissue in the middle of the nose between the two nostrils. There may be deformities in the bone and cartilage structure of the nose due to genetic, congenital factors, or an external blow. The bony or crooked appearance of the nose may cause discomfort in individuals. Although this appearance is sometimes seen from the outside and is only aesthetically disturbing, most of the time, breathing difficulties and deformity are seen together. The initial complaint of nasal septal deviation is nasal congestion. In addition, individuals have complaints of mouth breathing, sleeping with their mouth open, and accordingly dryness in the throat area, waking up tired, snoring, sleep apnea, frequent upper respiratory tract, sinusitis, and nasal discharge. Nasal Septum Deviation treatment is the correction of bone and cartilage tissue causing congestion with surgical intervention. The operation is performed under local anesthesia by entering through the nostrils without the requirement for making an incision and opening the nose. Intranasal placement of the sutures and no incisions made outside the nose do not cause any deformation in the nose. A tampon is placed in both nostrils after the surgery to absorb the mucous and bloody fluid. These tampons remain in the nose for 1-3 days and are then removed. Patients can easily continue their daily lives after 1 day of rest after surgery. No bruising or swelling occurs around the nose and under the eyes after the surgery. Full recovery is achieved within 15-20 days. It is an important point to attend to regular follow-ups after the surgery.
